# Errors

> JSON error envelope for 400 and 404.

Failed requests return JSON, not an empty array disguised as success.

| Status | When |
| - | - |
| 400 | Invalid query (limit, offset, page, independent status, empty name). |
| 404 | Filter matched no countries, or a flag code has no asset. |

Successful country lookups always return an array, even when a filter yields a single match.
